It’s six years after the Unification War. We meet our motley band on Persephone where they are taking a simple job for an old war contact. Your standard heist in a backwater mining town. What could go wrong?
Pilot, Part 1
The Crew met Marion Morrison at the Broken Rose bar at the Eavesdown Docks on Persephone. As an old war time contact of The Captain’s, she asked the crew a favor: steal a shipment of ore out from under the owner of a mine that she used to own. She was a bit cagey on the details of how she lost ownership of the mine to Étienne Du Bujac, but after some feisty bargaining, she agreed to a 50%/50% split of the shipment, plus a 10% stake in the mine’s profits if she was eventually able to regain ownership.
Near the end of the conversation some toughs on there way to work for du Bujac had gotten wind of Morrisons presence and decided to rough her and the Crew up some. The tustle was short lived as Viktor Roux managed to intimidate a few into leaving, and Kit Ketchum talked the rest down. Concerned the toughs would alert du Bujac, the Crew had Kit waltz into the Spaceport’s office and pretend to be an officer demanding the tough’s transport be grounded.
After a week or so in transit, the Crew arrives in the town of Hannibal on the small moon of Sweethome orbiting the Elphame gas giant. Marion told them to get in contact with Grady Hopkins, the mining foreman and an old friend of hers. The Crew split up to gather the lay of the land. Half head into town, where they promptly found themselves a bar and fell into a few drinks. The bar owner, Sally Zhang, was initially cold and suspicious but the kindly old Dr. Thorn won her over. She told them about the mine and town’s tough times since du Bujacs hostile takeover, and alluded to something sketchy about Grady and his daughter, Remember.
Meanwhile, the other half of the crew tried to bluff their way into the mine to find Grady, and nearly succeeded, but a suspicious guard tipped off the local Sheriff, Isaac “Izzy” Demsky, who rolled up with a posse of Deputies. After a short verbal confrontation, and a daring, but failed sneak attempt by Smith, the Sheriff rounded up Smith, Trip, and the Captain and took them back to the jail house. He then sent out some deputies to round up the rest of the Crew.
Kit, Viktor, and the Dr, alerted to the arrest by a gabby miner just off work, kindly received aid from Sally in sneaking back to their ship evading the Sheriff’s deputies.
